With the first look at the Funko DC Bombshells Mystery Mini series earlier today, it's a perfect opportunity to compare them with the existing Cryptozoic Lil’ Bombshells series.
With a standard case and an exclusive 'Specialty Series' case, there are 15 in the Funko series to collect. A welcome bonus included in the announcement is that they will all be 1/12 ratio making them easily obtainable if you can acquire a case. The only downside, and many have already voiced this, they're infantile in appearance with too much emphasis on cutsie - which just isn't "Bombshell".
As the source material dictates, they're presented as attractive, buxom and strong women with that early to mid 1900's feel and... well... a lotta moxy... In fact by definition -
bombshell
ˈbɒmʃɛl/
noun
- 1.an unexpected and surprising event, especially an unpleasant one."the news came as a bombshell"
- 2.informala very attractive woman."a twenty-year-old blonde bombshell"
But who did it better? Cryptozoic led the charge with the release of their Lil' Bombshells series 1 in 2016.
PROS | CONS
- 1/12 ratios
- Only 15 to collect
- Cheaper
- Terrible history with quality control
- Weird looking
- Ratios are often incorrect
- Unknown Ratios
- Too many to collect
- Too many colour variants
- Expensive
- Superior quality
- Better appearance
- Established series
I guess it comes down to whether or not you want to start a similar series if you're already entrenched in Lil' Bombshells. Alternatively, if you found the Cryptozoic series a little out of your price range or you're a completitonist do Funko seem that little bit more appealing? What do you think?
